One of the most successful sedans in North America, the 2003 Toyota Corolla/Matrix is reputed for its reliability, quality and performance without compromising value or comfort. It suitable for young, old, and middle-aged people alike. It is available in CE, S and LE models. The standard interior amenities change based on trim levels but the engine and chassis remain consistent throughout the models. The 2003 is the ninth-generation model that has a longer wheelbase, greater height and width and a longer passenger cabin. It has added fresh styling and gains 5.4 inches in wheelbase and 4.3 inches overall compared to the 1998-2002 version. Available in three model trims: CE, S and LE it satisfies the different tastes of potential customers. All models use a 1.8-liter 4 cyl teamed with manual or optional automatic transmission. ABS and front side airbags are available, but curtain side airbags are not. All Corollas include air conditioning, tilt steering wheel, split folding rear seat, power mirrors, and CD player. The S adds aero body trim and fog lights. The LE exclusively offers optional leather upholstery.

For 2004 the SE, ZX3 and ZX5 models of the Ford Focus offer a 130-horsepower 2.0-liter Zetec I4. This engine is matched with a 5-speed manual transaxle designed with low-friction needle-roller bearings to help improve fuel economy and performance. Another engine is a 2.3-liter I4 that produces 145 horsepower and 149 lb-ft of torque. It is used by the Ford Focus ZTS models. Finally, sporty SVT models feature the strongest of all the 2.0-liter I4s. It delivers 170 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque.
