Chevrolet will introduce an all-new sport-utility vehicle next spring called the Equinox. It will look like the newest trucks from Chevrolet, including Avalanche, TrailBlazer, Silverado, and the upcoming Colorado. It will share its basic architecture with the Saturn Vue, though Equinox is a full 6 inches longer. The platform is a unitized body made of high-strength steel, with full-length frame rails and a passenger safety cage in a single, welded unit, and isolated subframes front and rear to keep noise, vibration and shaking to a minimum. To keep initial pricing as low as possible, Chevrolet has put a lot of equipment on the option list. Even air conditioning will be optional. The long list of options includes Bosch anti-lock brakes, traction control, roof-mounted curtain air bags, a 6-way power driver seat, a moon roof, a premium sound system, an MP3 player, an in-dash six-CD changer, XM satellite radio, emergency communications and valet service, and heated front seats with leather.
2004 Chevrolet Equinox is a 4-door, 5-passenger sport-utility, available in 4 trims, ranging from the LS 2WD to the LT AWD. It's closest competitors include the Buick Rendezvous, the Land Rover Freelander, and the Toyota RAV4. Upon introduction, both trims are equipped with a standard 3.4-liter, V6, 185-horsepower engine. A 5-speed automatic transmission is standard. The 2004 Equinox is all-new for 2004. All new Equinox SUV is a smaller SUV with a wheelbase of 112.5 inches and a width of 61.6 inches that comes with sliding seat configurations that allow for longer cargo. It is well endowed with 185 horsepower and 210 foot-pounds of torque. All the power of the new Equinox is transferred to the wheels by a 5-speed automatic. It is planned to offer front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive models with towing capacity expected to be 3500 pounds.
