For the past 50 years, the Chevrolet Corvette has been America's sports car, a U.S.-production two-seater capable of real racetrack performance. The Corvette endures because it has always represented a performance value. Heart-pounding, soul-stirring dream machine, it continues to inspire all who live for unbridled power. The pinnacle of performance and handling, it is a true sports car legend. There's really nothing quite like the Corvette. Driving each of its models, whether it's a coupe, convertible, or the Z06, is always a visceral experience. The coupe is the most practical, offering nearly twice as much trunk space as the convertible or hardtop models. The convertible is sometimes the most enjoyable, however. Motoring along on a warm summer night in a Corvette with the top down can be a peak experience.
2004 Chevrolet Corvette comes in three configurations: a hatchback with a removable roof panel, a convertible with manual fabric top and heated glass rear window, and as the fixed-roof Z06 coupe. All use a 5.7-liter V8. Convertibles and hatchbacks have 350 hp and a 4-speed automatic transmission or optional 6-speed manual. The Z06 has 405 hp and comes only with the manual. ABS and antiskid/traction control are standard. Available for the convertible and hatchback is Magnetic Selective Ride Control. Set by a console switch to "Touring" or "Sport" modes, it's designed to automatically adjust shock-absorber firmness based on road conditions and driving style. Standard feature includes leather upholster, 6-way power seats, a center console, heated power mirrors, power windows and door locks, remote keyless entry and a Bose AM/FM/CD player. Z06 models have a unique head-up instrumentation display.

This car has been completely redesigned. Changes to these models include enhanced passenger comfort, increased size for more passenger and trunk room, an all-new body that's stiff but more lightweight than the previous model, and a new Active Front Steering System. The AFS also works with Adaptive Headlights, which are controlled in conjunction with the angle of the steering wheel, yaw rate and speed of the car. The system uses radar technology to maintain a safe distance at highway speeds. Options include Active Roll Stabilization and Run-flat Tires. Inside, the cabin is elegantly simplistic in appearance and richly trimmed in wood and leather. The 12-way power sport seats are supportive and comfortable over the long haul though on muggy days their non-ventilated surfaces can trap sweat. Audiophiles are likely to be quite pleased with the optional 13-speaker, Logic 7 surround sound system, all the more enjoyable thanks to the impressive silence of the cabin at highway speeds.
